How To Make Wholegrain Waffles
The Best Whole Grain Waffle Recipe (Seriously!)
Y’all, I’ve been makin’ these whole grain waffles for years, and let me tell ya—they are the best. Not only are they downright delicious, but they’ll also keep a gal goin’ strong through all those ranch chores and then some.
One of the reasons I love this recipe? It uses plain Greek yogurt, which gives these waffles a nice protein punch. That means they don’t just taste good—they actually help keep you full and energized longer. Perfect for those long days doin' ranch chores!
They’re also ridiculously easy to whip up. And bonus? You can make a big ol’ batch, freeze 'em, and pop one in the toaster on a busy morning. Talk about breakfast made easy!
So grab that mixing bowl and let’s get started, sugar. 🧇💪

How to Make Whole Grain Waffles
-
Start with the dry stuff.
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, rolled oats, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Set it aside—this is your base. -
Mix the magic.
In another bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, and Greek yogurt until it’s creamy and smooth. Try not to lick the whisk. (Okay, maybe one taste.) -
Bring it all together.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir well to combine. The batter will be thick and hearty—just like it should be! -
Let it rest.
Set the batter aside for about 20 minutes. It’ll puff up a little bit, like it's stretchin’ before a rodeo. -
Fire up that waffle iron.
Preheat your waffle iron. Once it’s hot, give it a light brush of melted butter—because we don’t do sticky messes around here. -
Pour and cook.
Scoop about ½ cup of batter into the center of the waffle iron. Close the lid and cook until your waffle is golden brown and crispy on the outside. Mine takes about 2–3 minutes, but every iron’s got its own personality. -
Keep 'em warm.
Place the cooked waffles on a baking sheet in a low oven (around 200°F) to keep 'em warm while you finish the batch.
This recipe makes roughly 6 round waffles—give or take, depending on how big your waffle iron is or how generous you're feelin’ with that batter scoop.
Topping Ideas for Whole Grain Waffles
Sure, syrup’s a classic—but let’s not limit ourselves, sugar. These waffles are bold, hearty, and ready to be dressed up in all kinds of delicious ways. Here are some favorite toppings that'll have your taste buds two-steppin’:
-
A big ol’ spoonful of huckleberry jam (around here, that’s basically gold in a jar)
-
Warm, real maple syrup—don’t even think about the fake stuff
-
A sprinkle of powdered sugar for a sweet, snowy touch
-
A scoop of plain Greek yogurt for some tang and extra protein
-
Blueberry syrup if you’re feelin’ a little wild at heart!
Or hey, skip the toppings altogether! These waffles are so dang good, they don’t need much. Just pour yourself an ice-cold glass of milk or a strong cup of coffee (bonus if it’s in your favorite cowgirl mug), and enjoy ‘em as-is.
And Darlin' you can absolutely make a double batch of these whole grain waffles—they store like a dream! Keep ‘em in the fridge for up to a week or pop them in the freezer for a couple of months. Cook once, eat twice. Who doesn’t love that kinda kitchen magic?
When you're ready to enjoy them, just toss one in the toaster on a low setting to warm and crisp. YUM. I usually grab a couple as I’m headin’ out the door to feed critters and start my busy day—they're hearty, satisfying, and keep me goin’ all morning long.
